Local details that matter

What changes from one county to the next

Property taxes and homestead exemptions

Property in Georgia is assessed and taxed by each county. Homestead exemptions are applied for through your county, and each county runs its own process and filing window. For homeowners and investors, we keep these records organized alongside your real estate tax planning.

Business licenses and local registration

A business inside city limits generally gets its business license from the city; one in an unincorporated area generally gets it from the county. State registrations, such as the Georgia Secretary of State and Department of Revenue, are the same everywhere. Our small business setup support helps you sort out which offices apply to your address.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Have a question that is not answered here? Book a consultation and ask us directly.

Do I need to come to the Atlanta office?

No. You are welcome at our office at 730 Peachtree St NE in Midtown by appointment, and consultations can also be held virtually through our online scheduler. Many clients around metro Atlanta start virtually and meet in person when it is useful, for example to review documents together.

My business is outside the City of Atlanta. Can you still help?

Yes. Most of the work we do, from business management and tax preparation to real estate and mortgage readiness, does not depend on which city you are in. Where local rules matter, such as your city or county business license or your county property tax records, we help you keep track of the right office and deadlines.

Which office handles my business license?

In Georgia, a business located inside city limits usually gets its business license, sometimes called an occupation tax certificate, from the city. A business in an unincorporated area usually gets it from the county. We help you confirm which applies to your address and keep renewals on your calendar.

Where do I apply for a homestead exemption?

Homestead exemptions in Georgia are applied for through your county, usually with the county tax assessor or tax commissioner's office. Each county sets its own process and filing window, so we help you find the right office for your home and organize the documents it asks for.

Do you work with clients elsewhere in Georgia?

Yes. Metro Atlanta is our home base, and we also work with clients in other parts of Georgia through virtual consultations. Book a consultation and tell us where you are located.
